Cinco de Spanko A Rousing Success—Don’t Miss the NEXT Party!We had a great time at the May play party. Around 50 people of all interests and skill levels attended. Of those attending, between a third and a half played. Some of those who played were doing so for the first time, and some were playing for the first time at one of our events, and some were experienced players who’d enjoyed one another’s company a number of times before. There was room for all kinds of experience there. We had plenty of room, extra play stations, excellent food, great eye candy—everything you could want for an excellent party. And the next party? Saturday, June 23rd, 8:30 pm until 2 am—yep, that’s this weekend! Contact our information line for the exact location, and remember—parties are always members only. That means members in good standing with Desert Dominion, APEX, Arizona Amazons and any other official card-carrying group are welcome. And of course, you should definitely dress to impress! Same drill as always: The fee is always $10 per person. Bring an incredibly decadent or delicious share food for the potluck. Sodas, coffee and tea will be provided for $1 each. Membership cards from DD or a qualifying organization are strictly required. No one will be admitted without one. Renewal memberships will be available at the door. Former members — please come out of the woodworks and play with us! Renew your membership and be a part of DD’s next growth stage! New members — make sure you show up and participate in this party. A good time will definitely be had by all! New Play Space Search ContinuesWe are still looking for a place in an industrial area or the like with at least 1,000 sq. ft. and not too expensive. We should be ready to lease by the fall. If you hear of a place where we can hold our meetings and parties, please share the information with a board member. Munch Location and Date ChangedDesert Dominion's munch is now the first Tuesday night of the month, at 5 and Diner, Broadway and Columbus, at 7:30 pm. This month, that’s Tuesday, July 3rd. There is no charge to attend; food and beverages are individually ordered and paid—so you get what you want. Thanks to 5 and Diner for providing room for our group. Please tip the wait staff generously. We want to remain welcome. If you are in the scene and lifestyle, new to the lifestyle, or just plain curious about bdsm, whether you’re gay, straight, lesbian, bi, or trans, bring a friend or just your perverted self to our munch/social gathering. We are a diverse group of people who enjoy sharing and socializing in a neutral, public setting where we can meet old friends and new friends who are interested in the lifestyle or are just plain curious. If you are nervous about attending, please understand that we always respect and honor anonymity and appropriateness. The munch is intended to be a social event of equals meeting equals. You will not find yourself being topped or bottomed without consent, nobody will be wearing bold fetish wear or enacting any play scenes. Actual play activities are only enacted in appropriate settings. You might be asked to negotiate by an interested other, but nothing more. Do only what you feel comfortable doing, agree only to what you want to agree to. Use common sense judgment, and have no fears—munch on good food, visit with interesting others, and have a good time. MunchTuesday, July 3rd, we’ll meet at the 5 and Diner (southeast corner of Broadway and Columbus) at 7:30 pm. This is a chance to introduce yourself to like-minded others and enjoy an evening of conversation and great food (individual tickets for orders)! Just a reminder: This is a social event, a group of equals meeting equals to discuss mutual topics of interest. The munch is not the right time to try out your new topping or bottoming skills, or to show off that great new outfit. That's better done in our party settings. The munch is more geared to support making friends and getting to know others who may well be candidates for play at a later date. SexChatMerryl Sloane hosts this sex-positive conversational free-for-all on the second Friday evening of every month at Wingspan (6th Street and Fifth Avenue, across from the International Arts Center). The topic for the evening is set by attendees. Guaranteed to be an amusing, informative time, $5 at the door. June PartySaturday, June 23rd, from 8:30 pm until the last whip sounds! The location of the party will be given out to members only. Please call our info line and leave your phone number so we can call you. Same drill as always: $10.00/person. Gay Pride ParadeThe Lesbian Avengers and OUTrage are pleased to present the 2nd Annual Tucson Pride Parade/March for LBGT people and friends on June 24th at 7 pm, with an after-party/fundraiser at the La Placita Plaza, downtown. Proceeds pay for the event and benefit the Lesbian Avengers and OUTrage. The Pride Parade/March starts at the 4th Avenue Park (1 block South of Speedway at 4th Avenue and 2nd Street) and continues to La Placita Plaza. This year's parade celebrates a "Requiem for the Sex Laws" and commemorates the Stonewall uprising (a pivotal event affecting our public and delicious sex-positive community of today, not to mention visibility of LBGT and other kinky people). If you are lesbian, gay, bi, trans, or supportive of anybody who is, please join the parade. For more information email: tucsonparade@juno.com or just show up at the park around 6:30. SD Butch RevueIn September, the San Diego kink community is hosting its Fourth Annual Butch Revue, featuring singing, dancing, comedians, kinky folk of all kinds. Proceeds go to production of the Ms. San Diego Leather Contest in November. Tentative datesJuly: depending on attendance at June event, could be a play party. August: possible trip to APEX in Phoenix. September 29: Open event similar to Bondage Bash, with vendors and demos and the like. October 27: Dress To Thrill play party in Tucson. December 29th: Spanking New Year party in Tucson Board Positions AddedWe had a vacancy on the board. The current Secretary was unable to continue in her position due to real world work demands. Dennis, a member who was in good standing long before the current group’s formation. Thanks to Dennis for stepping up to take this role. We appreciate you. The board has also decided to expand its membership to include two new voting members: the Dungeonmaster, and a new position, Membership Chair. In alignment with the bylaws’ provisions on these matters, at the last board meeting, a majority of the existing board voted these two positions into their current standing. Robert, our current Dungeonmaster, will continue in his position, and Chris has accepted the Membership Chair position for the remainder of the year. If you are interested in becoming one of the elected trusted servants, please let a board member know, and your name will be considered whenever we need new candidates. Candidates for any new or open positions are chosen based on their longevity with the DD group (including our prior incarnation as Desert Dungeons), in accordance with our bylaws. As of January 2002, all voting board positions will be elected ones, although vacancies will continue to be handled on an appointment basis, per a majority vote of the elected board members. Those interested in campaigning for positions will be able to apply for and begin their campaigns one month prior to the elections. Bylaws update:We have a projected voting date of the end of June on the bylaws. Members, please go to the bylaws page and examine them. If you have any critique, please forward your thoughts to a board member. We will be putting a ballot on the website next week which will allow members to formally vote for or against the bylaws. Watch for that. We want your feedback.
